THE WORK · FORM · CRAFT · MEANING

A contemporary Jingdezhen porcelain pair inspired by the layered ornament of Qing court furnishings. Openwork panels, hand-painted birds and blossoms, gilt details and tiered lotus bases reward a close look from every side.

Form and Handwork

Each covered incense burner is built in distinct sections, from the lotus-petal foot and openwork body to the tray, lid and finial. The pierced vermilion panels reveal painted floral and bird scenes within. Famille-rose enamels and gold accents continue across the lid and base. The openwork components require careful alignment and repeated firing.

Motifs and Meaning

Birds among flowering branches suggest renewal and joyful news. The layered lotus-petal base recalls the lotus seat in Buddhist art, while continuous floral scrolls express enduring abundance. The design brings together decorative symbolism and the quiet ritual of incense.

A Contemporary Jingdezhen Work

Hand-shaped, assembled, enamelled and fired in Jingdezhen, this pair is a contemporary work inspired by Qing dynasty imperial porcelain. The Qianlong reign mark is an imitation design mark, not evidence of an antique date or official imperial-kiln provenance. Please enquire about availability, use and shipping before ordering.
